Cranioleuca pallida is endemic to the Atlantic Forest (sensu lato) of southeastern Brazil, from southern Bahia to Santa Catarina. This spinetail occurs in montane forests and woodlands, including Araucaria angustifolia forests; 700-2,200 m. It is a canopy species, though may be seen lower to ground in elfin forest. It is olive brown, with a rufous crown, a whitish superciliary, rufous-chestnut wings and tail. Length 13.5-15 cm; weight 11-12 g. Pallid Spinetail breeds during the austral spring-summer; nest building as early as August.
